| Criminal Defense |
My earliest ambition was to follow in the tradition of Thomas More, John Adams, and Abraham Lincoln. From my first case as a Marine Corps Judge Advocate in 1982 to the present, I regard every case, no matter how unpopular, as a defense of my client, of the Constitution, and of the concept of justice. |
| Civil Litigation |
I aim to resolve every civil case with a minimum of time and expense for my client. Running up billable hours does not serve the client or the court. Any case can be resolved when all parties communicate thoroughly and candidly at the beginning of a dispute. When litigation is required, cases can be won through motions to dismiss or motions for summary judgement. Success depends on preparation. A trial is the method of last resort. |
| Military Law |
I graduated from Naval Justice School in 1981 and I served as a judge advocate in the Marine Corps for over three years. I tried over 100 cases as both defense and trial counsel in the Far East and in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where I was also the Chief Defense Counsel for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Marine Corps Base. My cases included premediated murder, negligent homicide, arson, and robbery. As a Marine Corps Reservist, I maintained my status as a military lawyer. On 1September 2009, I retrired from the Marine Corps upon reaching my 30th year of commissioned service. However, I remain active in the military justice system as a civilian counsel. |
